The Deccan Gymkhana locality is home to the pioneering Deccan Gymkhana, a sports institution that was established over a hundred years ago in 1906 with the primary objective being to promote a variety of indoor and outdoor sports. Today, it occupies a floor space of 14 acres of indoor play area where one can find an assortment of sports being played under one roof.

This area which lies in the center of the Pune city is one of Pune’s major areas and has a diverse range of entertainment options such as cafes, shopping malls, restaurants and other entertainment areas. Major roads in this locality include famous roads in all of Pune including Karve road, Fergusson College Road etc. The region is also home to the famous Sambhaji Park.

Infrastructure

The major infrastructural attractions in this locality include the Deccan Gymkhana sports centre and the PYC Hindu Gymkhana. The old and famous Irani café “Café Good Luck” is also situated in this area on the Fergusson College Road. This pre independence era cafe was constructed in the year 1935.

A lot of world-famous eat-outs such as KFC, McDonalds and Pizza Hut along with local favorites Vaishali and Roopali are also present here. The entertainment factor is provided by two malls namely, Alka Cinema Hall and City Pride Multiplex. The two gymkhanas also are highly popular places to hang out among the younger generation inclined towards sports.

Real Estate prospects

The presence of two gymkhanas, a world class institution (Fergusson College) and several popular hotspots resulted in a natural increase in the real estate values. Moreover, the presence of the locality in the heart of the city has its advantages too. Excellent connectivity with the other parts of the city and the state is provided by the PMPML bus services. Other proposed connectivity options include the proposed Pune Metro line as well.

So all the above factors combined together results in a running rate that fluctuates between Rs 6,500 per sq ft all the way up to Rs 10,000 per sq ft. Hence it positions itself in the niche upper middleclass to upper class levels of the populace.
